Become a U.S. Citizen

If you are not already a U.S. Citizen, you may want to become one. This process is called Naturalization, and if you meet the eligibility requirements, then becoming a U.S. Citizen has many benefits over being a Green Card holder.

Seek Green Cards for: a Spouse or Unmarried Children

Lawful U.S. Permanent Residents may petition for their spouses and unmarried children of any age, to immigrate to the United States if they otherwise qualify.

Financially Support an Immigrant Beneficiary (Form I-864)

By signing this document, any household member who is not a sponsored immigrant agrees to allow his or her income to be available to the petitioning sponsor to help support the immigrant beneficiary.

Apply for Advance Parole for Travel (Form I-131)

Have you already applied for your Permanent Residency via an Application to Adjust Status, but you haven’t heard back yet? Do you need to travel abroad? If you leave the United States without first obtaining Advance Parole, you will normally abandon your Permanent Residency application.

Renew or Replace your Resident Card (Form I-90)

As proof of your authorization to live and work in the United States, a valid green card must always be in your possession.

Apply for a Work Permit (Form I-765)

Apply for your Employment Authorization Document (EAD). This document confers the right to work in the United States for a certain period of time.

Remove 2-year Marriage Condition (Form I-751)

Permanent Residency based on marriages that are less than 2 years old, is conditional. To become a Lawful Permanent Resident, you and your spouse will have to jointly file Form I-751 after you have been married for two years, in order to have the conditions removed
